Stations of the Cross (III-V)
March 20, 2026
Fr. John Colacino C.PP.S.
Third Station: Jesus falls the first time

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 35:11-17

Lying witnesses arise,
asking me questions I cannot understand.
They repay me evil for good;
my soul is forlorn.
When they were sick I dressed in sackcloth,
afflicted my soul with fasting,
and with prayer ever anew in my heart,
as for a brother, a friend.
I went as though mourning a mother,
bowed down with grief.
Now that I stumble, they gladly gather;
they gather, and mock me.
I myself do not know them,
yet strangers tear at me ceaselessly.
They provoke me with mockery on mockery,
and gnash their teeth at me.
O LORD, how long will you look on?
Rescue my life from their ravages,
my soul from these lions.

Collect

Lord God, whose blessed Son our Savior gave his body to be
whipped and his face to be spit upon: Give us grace to accept
joyfully the sufferings of the present time, confident of the
glory that shall be revealed; through Jesus Christ your Son our
Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen. (ECUSA)

Fourth Station: Jesus meets his mother

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 22: 9-15

Yet you are he who took me from the womb;
    you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
 On you was I cast from my birth,
    and from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
 Be not far from me,
    for trouble is near,
    and there is none to help.

 Many bulls encompass me;
    strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
 they open wide their mouths at me,
    like a ravening and roaring lion.

 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
    it is melted within my breast;
 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
    and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
    you lay me in the dust of death.

Collect

Lord our God,
you placed at the side of your suffering Son
his Mother to suffer with him,
so that the human race,
deceived by the wiles of the devil,
might become a new and resplendent creation.
Grant that your people may put aside their inheritance of sin
and put on the newness of life won
by Christ the Redeemer.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Masses of the BVM)

Fifth Station: Simon the Cyrene is made to bear the cross

Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi, quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.
We adore Thee, O Christ, And we bless Thee, Who by Thy Holy Cross hath redeemed the world.

Psalm 69:14-21

I pray to you, O LORD,
for a time of your favor.
In your great mercy, answer me, O God,
with your salvation that never fails.
Rescue me from sinking in the mud;
from those who hate me, deliver me.
Save me from the waters of the deep,
lest the waves overwhelm me.
Let not the deep engulf me,
nor the pit close its mouth on me.
LORD, answer, for your mercy is kind;
in your great compassion, turn towards me.
Do not hide your face from your servant;
answer me quickly, for I am in distress.
Come close to my soul and redeem me;
ransom me because of my foes.
You know my taunts, my shame, my dishonor;
my oppressors are all before you.
Taunts have broken my heart;
here I am in anguish.
I looked for solace, but there was none;
for consolers—not one could I find.

Collect

Gracious Father,
you gave up your Son
out of love for the world:
lead us to ponder the mysteries of his passion,
that we may know eternal peace
through the shedding of our Saviour’s blood,
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Church of England)
